8 millon messages? Wow, Forumotion's database is really big, I now can see why they don't want to share it, and how they can pay the server without few ads? Forumotion is a very good option If you are a starter, I made my first forum there, and it was quite successful, obviously about Sonic.

I don't think they pay for a server, as the creator has it's own home server. But yeah, it's a good start, if you don't want to make something big of your forum, but if you want to make something big out of it, a free/paid FTP host is rather better, because if you use Forumotion, you're stuck with them.

Yeah forumotion is fine for your first forum. xD I made a pokemon forum myself and that was my first forum. Pkmnmod.forumotion.com its still up too. xD

If you delete it, the forum will still remain in the database, and you can revert the action, and put your forum online again.

No, I didn't know this. I already read how big the database is, so It isn't necessary to read other topics again.

Yeah, but that doesn't really help if you want to make your forum something big, because you're stuck with Forumotion instead of asking them to export your forums database. But now that I think about it it's not even possible, because Forumotion's forums are heavily modified and are not compatible with the forum you for example host on FTP.

Hope they asked phpBB for permissions, because they can take legal actions. I don't like Forumotion now, It's limited in the set of permissions of forums.

phpBB is open source. =P

Oh yes, but it uses the GPL license.

@SV: What's about the heavily modified phpBB 2, I don't saw any user in phpBB's official website, writing the word "Forumotion" or writing about the aforementioned hosting service.

Well, I've seen in some forums that FM's phpBB2 actually phpBB3 but a bit modified is.
