How to maintain a good forum Empty How to maintain a good forum

Here is a guide for maintain a good forum, without spam, bots, or anything else like that.

    1. Making a Validation forum is a good forum to avoid spammers, be sure to put the proper permissions. If sdpammers register, they will be able to post in that forum, and you can easily delete them, and their topics after that.

    2. The Captcha is a good solution to this problem, however, it's not sufficient to stop them, you can put questions, by example, "what's the colour/color of the earth" they will not be able to respond and avoiding spambots, not human spammers, however, since they are not programmed robots.

    3. Try to maintain your forum active, do not left it, and try to be fresh in it, posting regularly there

    4. If a newbie registers, then don't be an asshole or arrogant, try to be patient, and nice, don't bite them.

    5. Try to maintain your forum visible to guests since few guests will have interest to register If there is not content for them.

    6. If you are going to promote a mod, hack, fangame, or something like that, publish it in a famous site but without a download link, nor screenshots, and put a link to your site, saying the aformentioned are for download in your site, this will increase your visits and members probably, but the latter one will not increase If you put it public.

    7. Try to promote your site anywhere else, in famous sites like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, MySpace, and Google.

    8. Some people may not like the idea of register. Albeit not the better form, you can put the appropiate permissions for guests to post ¡n your forums, increasing the activity of your forum by that way.

    9. Try to be original with your content, don't publish anything else from other forums as this will probably give a bad reputation to your forum.

    10. Try to post with people or characters that other forums don't, by example instead of posting always about Sonic, try to post about the less seen characters in the series.

    11. Don't put content to just your personal preferences, put something that fit with other users.

    12. Last, don't be a complete asshole to your members just because you are the founder, co-founder, owner, administrator, moderator, or Staff Members, banning a member just because the user is against you can be fatal mistake.

    1. A validation forum is only useful for huge forums. In small and freshly created communities this refrains people from registering.

    2. Unfortunately not every forum software has this feature/mod...

And come on, as if ASMTSG isn't good enough :p *runs*

    1. Not If you put it in private.

    2. The Captcha or something like that is featured in the majority of forum softwares.

    1. Yeah, but then again, people don't wanna beg to become a member. (If I wasn't a member at Sonic Retro, I wouldn't even give a shit. Too elitist.)

    2. There are shittons of spambots, which can bypass Captcha. The mod/feature I was reffering to was the Question & Answer mod.
